Unclipped dustwrapper. This is the second edition of Tanglewood Tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne and illustrated by Edmund Dulac. There were only two editions of this Dulac title published - the first being c1916 and this edition. Cover design, endpapers and 12 colour plates all by Edmund Dulac. This edition has it's scarce dustwrapper which has served to keep the book in very good condition. The wrapper is missing the bottom 1.5 inches and the top 1 inch of the spine and has chipping to the edges. The book is bound in pale grey / brown cloth with pictorial lettering and designs in red - very bright and fresh owing to the dustwrapper albeit with a few light age marks to the top of the cover. The book has scattered foxing to the endpapers, page edges, and to a few internal pages - very common with this edition owing to the paper used. Binding is tight, no bumping to the cover and no marking other than a neat inscription to the front endpaper. Wrapper is protected in a Brodart or similar sleeve. Book measures 7.5 x 10 x 1.5 inches. Some beautiful Dulac illustrations that exhibit his Japanese and Persian influences and a line quality matched only by Arthur Rackham and Kay Nielsen. A difficult Dulac title to obtain due to the few editions published. Nice and clean internally and externally. First edition means first edition, first printing, unless otherwise clearly stated.
